City sponsors workshop on 'unconscious bias' in hiring

Join PHL Diversity, a division of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Multicultural Foodservice and Hospitality Alliance (MFHA) on October 6 as we learn about Unconscious Bias. The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the National Liberty Museum.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Each day we make countless decisions and interactions with little regard to whether (even in the most subtle way) we might slight individuals by these decisions and interactions.  Researchers call this "Unconscious Bias"--it is happening right now as you read this. While we might not be aware of our biases, or prefer not to admit they exist, our biases can have damaging consequenses on both the way we manage, interact, or do business with others. In fact, they can affect the ability to attract and recruit people who are different from us. This 2.5 hour session will provide MBE's (Minority Business Enterprises) with a clear understanding of the consequences of how unmanaged Unconscious Biases can have a direct impact on business opportunities.

Gerry Fernandez, President & CEO of Multicultural Foodservice and Hospitality Alliance leads this discussion, which includes:

How Implicit Bias is Impacting Your Business
    Personalized Cultural Collaboration Assessment
    Cultural Intelligence Self-Assessment Test
    Individual Action Plan
