Celebrate spring as a time of renewal by helping an adult get a new lease on life. Become a volunteer literacy tutor with the Delaware County Literacy Council (DCLC).
Volunteer literacy tutors meet one on one with a local adult twice a week and tutor that adult in reading, math, or English as a Second Language (ESL). No knowledge of other languages is required to be an ESL tutor.
Volunteering as a literacy tutor offers wide-ranging personal rewards and strengthens the entire community. Free training, materials, and support are provided.
There are several opportunities to attend a 12-hour volunteer tutor training this spring.
ESL tutor training is available in March (Saturdays, March 7 and 21) and in June (Saturdays, June 6 and 20).
Adult Basic Education (ABE) tutor training is available in March (Tuesday and Thursday evenings, March 10-19), in April (Saturdays, April 11 and 18), and in June (Saturdays, June 13 and 20).
Trainings are held at DCLC’s Chester and Upper Darby locations. For details about the trainings and to apply, visit https://delcoliteracy.org/volunteer.
For 45 years DCLC has provided free literacy services to local adults who wish to improve their reading, writing, math or English-speaking skills so that they can thrive in the community and the workplace. To learn more, visit here.
