YOACAP has openings for youth apprenticeship programs

Many youths want to go to college, and others are looking for other options. The Youth Outreach Adolescent Community Awareness Program (YOACAP) has several trade options like Carpentry, Finishing Trades Institute (FTI), Plumbing & Electrical that will help males and females gain entry into the building trade.

These programs help committed participants prepare for and take the exams, learn about building trade culture, and receive training certificates. They also receive weekly transportation, tools & a small monthly incentive as they reach specific YOACAP and Philadelphia Works benchmarks. Working with Tools can be a Great Career.

To enroll in YOACAP’s building pre- apprenticeship or afterschool program (for teens), participants must either have their diploma, or be on track to earn it. They must be able to eventually pass a drug test, be willing to attend prep training classes, and work experience sessions.

Young people who like working with their hands, are good with math, critical thinkers, and listeners are great candidates for the programs. Many building trades start their apprentices at $17 per hour, plus benefits. Let YOACAP help your family member or friend get into one of Philly’s finest unions. This past year, 10 of 12 youth passed the carpenters exam. Two will take other union exams like the plumbers in the fall . Call 215-851-1968 today.
