National Runaway Safeline issues annual report

We are very excited to share our newly released 2021 Annual Report. Please view the report here for highlights of our valuable services and activities, which are offered to young people in need across the country 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have identified alarming new trends related to the youth who have reached out for support:

  • Mental health has risen to the third most common reason youth contact NRS for help, representing nearly a third of all contacts. This is a striking development that we are seeing for the first time in our 50 years of operation.
  • Young people ages 10-14 are the fastest growing population reaching out to NRS, including a dramatic increase of 150% for children under the age of 12. This shift requires a critical focus on prevention and early intervention efforts to ensure this group of young people have the supports and services they need.

The challenges experienced by youth today are more complex than they were just a few years ago, and young people need a trusted place to turn for help. With increased demand for our services today and well into the future, we hope you will consider donating to the National Runaway Safeline, helping us continue to expand our crisis services and prevention programs to best meet the needs of America's youth.
