Philadelphia Foundation's Spring 2023 competitive, discretionary grant cycle is now open.
Application Due Dates:
- To be considered for a grant in April 2023, applications are due by midnight on March 3. The application window is now open.
- To be considered for a grant in November 2023, applications are due by midnight on September 9. This application window opens in August.
Advocacy Unrestricted Grants are available on a competitive basis for nonprofits utilizing advocacy and community organizing best practices toward policy change on behalf of marginalized and low-income communities in Greater Philadelphia.
Successful applicants will demonstrate a track record of identifying community issues of concern and the specific policies reinforcing these issues, implementing activities challenging these policies and practices, and a history of winning policy changes.
- Operating budget above $100,000.
- No deficit of more than 10% for prior three years. No more than two years of deficits for prior three years.
- Organizations must support Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and other historically marginalized and under-invested communities.
- Grant amounts range between $15,000 and $30,000 and are unrestricted.

Direct Service Grants are available on a competitive basis for direct-service nonprofits serving high poverty and vulnerable populations in our Greater Philadelphia region.
- Organizations seeking direct service grants should demonstrate a strong history of effective programs that serve vulnerable populations, strong management practices, sound fiscal performance, and strong leadership at the board and staff levels.
- Operating budget above $100,000.
- No deficit of more than 10% for the past year.
- Grant amounts range between $15,000 and $30,000 and are unrestricted.

Fund for Children Strategic Investments in Youth Grants provide general operating support for Philadelphia-based youth development organizations that prioritize youth leadership, civic engagement, and youth organizing activities and outcomes.
- For nonprofits serving children and youth from birth to 18 in Philadelphia.
- Priority given to those with operating budgets under $5 million.
- Grant amounts range between $10,000 and $50,000.

Impact Program Grants are available on a competitive basis to nonprofits serving high-poverty and marginalized populations in Greater Philadelphia who can demonstrate that their work improves the lives of people served.
- Applicants must present a strong history of direct service programming to high poverty and marginalized populations and have documented outcomes and evaluations data for at least one year of program service delivery.
- Organizations seeking funding for pilot programs should demonstrate prior success in delivering outcomes-based initiatives and achieving desired outcomes for targeted populations.
- Organizations must support Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and other historically marginalized and under-invested communities.
- Operating budget above $100,000.
- Grant amounts will not exceed 10% of the organization’s budget and are capped at $30,000. Grants are restricted and will only support program-related activities.

Leadership Grants are made to nonprofit organizations that seek to: increase measurable skills and diversity of pipelines for senior staff and board members and to strengthen organizational capacity and nonprofit leaders in the areas of Governance, Management, Planning, Civic Engagement, Board and Staff Development, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Requests to support leadership transition and to increase the diversity of senior staff leadership also will be considered.
- Operating Budget above $100,000.
- Grant amounts range between $10,000 and $50,000.
