Mayor-elect Parker names inter-governmental "roundtable"

Mayor-elect Cherelle Parker spoke often about her intergovernmental experience during her campaign to lead the city.

At City Hall last week, Parker named a roundtable that includes most of the Democratic Party’s elected officials. No members of the Republican or Working Families Party made the list.

The chair of the roundtable is State Sen. Vincent Hughes. Council President Darrell Clarke is senior advisor. As Parker takes office on Jan. 2, Clarke will retire after serving on the council for more than 20 years, 11 of those as president.

Before winning election as the city’s 100th mayor and the first woman in November, Parker served as a city and state legislator.

Jeffrey Young, a lawyer who worked as a staffer for Clarke, will succeed him in the 5th District, which includes parts of North Philadelphia.

The roundtable includes both U.S. Sens. Bob Casey and John Fetterman; the city’s U.S. House Delegation: U.S. Reps. Brendan Boyle, Dwight Evans and Mary Gay Scalon; Sens. Tina Tartaglione, Sharif Street, Art Haywood and Jimmy Dillion; State Reps. Joana McClinton, Speaker of the House, Jordan Harris, Kevin Boyle, Pat Gallagher, Morgan Cephas, Donna Bullock, Danilo Burgos, Darisha Parker, Jason Dawkins, Jose Giral, Regina Young, Steve Kinsey, and Anthony Bellmon.

In addition, the roundtable will include most Councilmembers, including Mark Squilla, Kenyatta Johnson, Curtis Jones, Mike Driscoll, Cindy Bass, and Anthony Phillips, along with council members-at Large Katherine Gilmore Richardson, Isaiah Thomas and Jim Harrity.

“I’m honored to serve as a member of Mayor-elect Parker’s Intergovernmental Roundtable,” Evans said. I’m happy to help as she works to put in place a solid foundation for success for the next four years! I think she has the right priorities and the implementation will be crucial.”
